E-Learning Days
Purpose
Due to extreme weather conditions and other extenuating circumstances that occur during the school year and that affect decision-making to ensure student and public health and safety, Southeastern CUSD #337 students and staff will engage in e-learning days when deemed necessary by the superintendent. These learning opportunities will ensure students receive continuous access to instructional materials and resources. Notification of general expectations and responsibilities will be communicated to teachers, staff, and students at least 30 days prior to utilizing an e-learning day.
The district will ensure access to instructional materials for all students and that the specific needs of all students are met as required by law, including special education students and English language learners. In addition, the district will ensure that all mandates are met using the e-learning program.
Program Expectations and Goals
- To ensure at least 5 clock hours of instruction or school work for each student participating in an e-learning day. Teachers will provide all students in all grades with grade appropriate and meaningful lessons and instructions. Teachers are expected to respond to all student correspondence in a timely manner during the normal school day hours.
- To ensure access from home or other appropriate remote facility for all students participating, including electronic devices, hot spots, and other forms of electronic communication that must be utilized. Each student of the district will be assigned an electronic device at the beginning of each school year. Hot spot (Internet) devices will be available upon request by parents or guardians.
- If a hot spot cannot be utilized, the program will ensure that non-electronic materials are made available for students participating in the program who do not have access to the required technology or to participating teachers or students who are prevented from accessing the required technology.
- To ensure appropriate learning opportunities for students with special needs.
- To monitor and verify each student’s electronic participation.
- To address the extent to which student participation is within the student’s control as to the time, pace and means of learning.
- To provide effective notice to students and their parents or guardians of the use of e-learning days. Parents will be notified of e-learning days through the use of social media as well as the district’s all call notification system.
- To ensure staff and students receive adequate training in preparation for e-learning days.
- To ensure that all teachers and staff who may be involved in the provisions of e-learning have access to any and all hardware and software that may be required.
- To ensure an opportunity for any collective bargaining negotiations with representatives of the school district’s employees that would be legally required, and including all classifications of school district employees who are represented by collective bargaining agreements and who would be affected in the event of an e-learning day.
Any issues that arise during the program should be communicated to the administration.
The district will review the e-learning plan on an annual basis to address issues that arise to ensure continuous improvements are being designed and implemented.
