Classrooms

 6th Grade Math

Passport to Mathematics: Book 1 is the first program in The Passport Series. It bridges elementary math studies to provide students with a solid foundation of mathematical concepts, including fractions, ratios and proportions, decimals, percents, and statistics and graphs. Then it introduces students to basic ideas found in geometry and algebra to prepare them for future success in the next level of mathematics and on standardized tests.

Chapter concepts include:

1.     Problem Solving

2.     Place-Value systems and Operations

3.     Decimals & Percents

4.     Applications of Decimals and Percents

5.     Statistics and Graphs

6.     Fractions, Ratios, & Proportions

7.     Adding & Subtracting Fractions

8.     Multiplying & Dividing Fractions

9.     Geometry & Patterns

10. Geometry & Measurement

7th Grade Math

Passport to Mathematics: Book 2 is the second program in The Passport Series. This program expands on the topics presented in Book 1 and explores more advanced concepts in data analysis and statistics, integers and probability. Geometry in the plane and in space is introduced, as are probability and discrete mathematics. Book 2 helps students bridge proportional reasoning to algebra, examine algebraic and geometric concepts more closely, and apply skills to solve more challenging problems.

Chapter concepts include:

1.     Problem Solving

2.     Number Relationship & Fractions

3.     Fractions & Their Operations

4.     Algebra & Integers

5.     Data Analysis & Statistics

6.     Ratios & Proportions

7.     Percents & Decimals

8.     Geometry in the Plane

9.     Geometry in Space

10. Algebra: Using Integers

11. Probability

12. Algebra: Equations & Functions

7th & 8th Grade Pre-Algebra

Passport to Algebra and Geometry is the third program of The Passport Series. It builds on the fundamental middle school concepts covered in programs 1 and 2, while shifting the emphasis to essential concepts in Algebra and Geometry in preparation for Algebra 1. Number theory, rational numbers and percents, real numbers and inequalities, linear equations, congruence, similarity, and transformations are some of the topics covered.

Chapter concepts include:

1.     Exploring Patterns

2.     Investigations in Algebra

3.     Modeling Integers

4.     Exploring the Language of Algebra

5.     Data & Graphs

6.     Number Theory

7.     Rational Numbers & Percents

8.     Proportion, Percents, & Probability

9.     Real Numbers & Inequalities

10. Geometry Concepts

11. Congruence, Similarity & Transformations

12. Measurements in Geometry

 Algebra 1

Algebra is a branch of mathematics concerned with operations on sets of numbers or other elements that are often represented by symbols. Algebra is a generalization of arithmetic and gains much of its power from dealing symbolically with elements and operations (such as addition and multiplication) and relationships (such as equality) connecting the elements. In algebra letters are used to stand for numbers. Much of algebra 1 is concerned with finding solutions to equations or systems of equations.

Chapter concepts include:

1.     Connections to Algebra

2.     Rules of Algebra

3.     Solving Linear Equations

4.     Graphing Linear Equations

5.     Writing Linear Equations

6.     Solving & Graphing Linear Inequalities

7.     Solving systems of Linear Equations

8.     Power & Exponents

10. Polynomials & Factoring

11. Using Proportions & Rational Equations

12. Functions

Math Lab

Math Lab is designed as enrichment for the math classroom. Extra time is spent teaching students how to approach or solve problems. Math facts are not taught in this elective.  Instead, emphasis is on the use of technology. Students are able to gain a positive attitude about math and are more confident in their abilities.
