Friday, February 10, 2006, students in grades 4 – 8 participated in an opening Olympic Ceremony.  Each of the eight character education teams was assigned a country to design a flag for, as well as a portion of the Olympic flag to create using team members.  The Monkeys ~ blue ring and Austria,  Ligers ~ black ring and USA, Foxes ~ red ring and Russia, Parakeets ~ green ring and Germany, Lemonheads ~ yellow ring and Italy, Orangutans ~  white border and Norway, Seals ~ white border and Canada,  Dukes ~ white border and Switzerland.  Each team entered the gymnasium carrying their respective flag and wearing the appropriate shirt color to create their assigned part of the Olympic flag.  Next, the secretaries entered carrying the Olympic flag while the Olympic Fanfare was played.  Finally, the honorary torchbearer, Chris Duerr, entered the gymnasium carrying the torch.  Everyone took the Olympic Oath, followed by the singing of the National Anthem for the U.S.A.  “Let the games begin!”  

The Friday following the Olympic Ceremony character ed teams participated in Olympic games.  Each team was responsible for running a game that modeled those in the Olympics.
