Students in grades 5-8 are able to participate in
speech contest.
Speech contest is not for the timid! Students who are in speech
contest have a lot of fun performing in front of a judge, audience, and
fellow classmates.
There are several ways to participate in speech:
- a funny or serious monologue (by yourself – memorize a script
6-10 minutes)
-
a funny or serious duet (with a partner – memorize a script 6-10
minutes)
- a selection of poems (you choose – must be memorized – 6-10
minutes)
- original script: you may also write your own monologue, poem, or
duet
- Improvisation Duet Acting (with a partner- judge gives you an
opening line and you act out whatever comes to your mind for two
minutes. 3 improvisations are completed - two humorous and one serious.
This is VERY hard to do!!!
- Impromptu speaking: you are given a choice of two topics.
You choose one of the topics and write a speech on that topic. You must
do all of this in 8 minutes! (This is very, VERY hard to do!)
-
Small group: groups of 3-5 students perform a
memorized script (6-10 minutes)
