Title I

Classrooms

We are excited at the beginning of this year in fifth grade reading class to offer a Web Quest proving the need for and importance of reading.  The students research on the computers to find various opinions about why reading is so important in so many people’s lives.  They give an oral presentation with their partner in class about the need of reading for all of us.  We will be on the computers over and over this year and have a wealth of different information to look forward to learning on various levels!  We are using the Holt, Rinehart, and Winston Elements of Literature text with its interesting stories.  One of the first novels we will read will be the delightful book, Stone Fox, by John Reynolds Gardiner.  We will get to make edible sleds and see the movie similar to the book after reading it.  Opportunities to experience the joy of reading will prevail with the wonderful technology, good books, and classroom learning opportunities.

This year we will be reading books monthly and working with the Accelerated Reader after reading the student’s chosen book.  We plan to read a book a month with the first being read in October.  The students are greatly encouraged to read at every level.

You might find this website that corresponds with our text book interesting, www.go.hrw.com.

Please bring these items to class daily: pencil, assignment book, reading notebook, notebook paper, the text book or book being read in class at that time, and a library book.

I would be happy to hear from you, and you are welcome to share any comments or concerns with me by calling the school or emailing me at:  makerley@southeastern334.com
