Junior High Physical Education Objectives

  • acquire safety skills, habits, and develop awareness regarding safety for themselves and for others
     
  • seek participation in and derive enjoyment from wholesome recreation during leisure time
     
  • value the personal qualities of self-control, self-confidence, good sportsmanship, and respect of others
     
  • acquire an understanding of rules and be able to apply strategies in a variety of physical education activities and sports
     
  • exhibit neuromuscular coordination techniques, agility, balance, and flexibility in a variety of physical activities and sports
     
  • understand, experience, and appreciate the benefits that result from physical exercise

The Junior High Physical Education curriculum includes some or all of the following units:  fitness testing, soccer, wiffle ball, basketball, kickball, ping pong, volleyball, bowling, pickle ball, badminton, skating, floor hockey, softball, team handball, frisbee, and flag football.  There is a minimal fee for the skating unit. 

Rules & Expectations

Classroom rules are stipulated in the Junior High Handbook. 

DRESS ~ students are required to change into P.E. clothes daily unless specified.  Proper dress includes:  gym shoes, gym socks, gym shorts, t-shirt/sweatshirt, jogging/running suits, deodorant.  P. E. clothes cannot be worn to another class.  Jewelry shall not be worn during class.  It should be placed in a locked locker.

Locker Room, Locks, & Lockers

  • Each student is responsible for their locker, lock, and the contents inside of it.

  • If a school lock is damaged or lost, a fee will be issued and must be collected before a replacement lock will be issued.

  • All lockers must be secured and clean at all times.

  • Periodically the locker room will be cleared out of any items not secured in a locker.

  • Do not change locks without the teacher's permission.

  • Do not enter another student's locker.

  • Students are allowed to bring their own locks as long as the combination/key is left with the instructor.

  • Our locker rooms are used as visitor locker rooms for other schools during athletic events.  Be sure they are kept in a clean, orderly fashion.

GRADING

Daily grades are computed on the following:

1.  Dress           
2.  Effort           
3.  Participation
4.  Cooperation

Physical Education is an activity class that requires active, positive participation on a daily basis.  Students in class are expected to dress daily and perform the daily activities to the best of their ability.  Students can receive up to 4 points per day.  Students who choose not to dress will lose a total of 4 points and will not be allowed to participate in the daily activities. Students can also lose their 4 points based on behavior.

EXCUSES

If you are injured or become ill during the day, see the instructor before deciding not to dress.  If you sit out, you must bring a note from a parent stating the problem.  Any more than three consecutive days out of class requires a doctor's slip to be excused.  If you have any medical limitations, please inform the instructor immediately.

UNEXCUSED ABSENCES

Unexcused absences from school/class will result in a loss of points for that day.  Make ups will be allowed at the instructor's discretion.
