SUBJECT:                     Binotti Risk Management Award

The Joint Annual Conference of the Illinois Association of School Boards, the Illinois Association of School Administrators, and the Illinois Association of School Business Officials took place in Chicago last weekend.  At this very large statewide conference the Southeastern CUSD #337 received the David Binotti Risk Management Award from the Illinois School District Agency (a property-casualty insurance pool associated with the Illinois Association of School Boards) and the Workman’s Compensation Self-Insurance Trust (a workman’s compensation pool again associated with the IASB).  The award was presented at the conference’s First General Assembly Session on Friday afternoon, November 21st.  The District earned the award for its efforts to reduce and control risks in the new Jr./Sr. High School building and in the installation of a sprinkler system in the three story portion of the elementary school.  High School Principal and Assistant Superintendent Todd Fox and I were included in the awards presentation on behalf of the school district.  District Administrative Assistant Anita Marlow was present as she was also attending workshops at the conference.

It was an honor to represent the school district at this event.  Receiving this award is indicative of recognition of the time and efforts that Todd Fox, former Superintendent Mike Owen, and members of the Board of Education invested in the planning and construction of the jr./sr. high school project.  All are to be congratulated for the final outcome of the building and for their individual and collective roles in seeing this project to a successful completion.

Mr. Fox and I also learned on Tuesday that Klingner and Associates, our architects and engineers, will be receiving a Special Achievement Award in the 2009 Engineering Excellence Competition for its design of the Southeastern Jr./Sr. High School.  Mr. Fox and I have been invited as guests of Klingner and Associates to the Engineering Excellence Awards Luncheon on Friday, February 13, 2009 as guests of Klingner's and to be included in accepting this award at The Drake Hotel in Chicago.  This also is very exciting recognition for Klinger's and for our school district.
